Supported Tools
3.1 Overview
The DocEndorse MCP server provides a set of tools that allow users to manage document execution and electronic signature (e-signature) workflows through compatible AI assistants.
Users can interact with these tools using natural language, making it easier to find documents, initiate signature requests, track progress, and manage outstanding signatures without manually navigating through every step of the process.
The available tools cover the following areas:
- E-signature workflows: Create reusable templates, prepare documents, send documents for signature, and sign documents yourself.
- Document and template search: Find existing documents and templates in DocEndorse.
- Signature request management: View and search previously sent signature requests.
- Signature tracking: Check the status of signature requests and retrieve recipient information.
- Reminders and follow-ups: Send reminders and resend signature requests to recipients.
The following sections describe each tool and its purpose.
3.2 E-Signature Workflows
3.2.1 Esign Documents
Tool: esign_with_docendorse
This tool initiates an e-signature workflow through the DocEndorse AI Agent. It is the primary tool for requests involving the creation, preparation, signing, or execution of documents for electronic signature.
It supports the following workflows:
- Send documents for signature: Send documents to other parties for electronic signatures.
- Create templates: Turn documents into reusable e-signature templates for future use.
- Use existing templates: Start a new signature workflow using an existing template.
- Self-sign documents: Sign or complete a document when you are the sole signer.
All template creation and document preparation tasks are handled by the DocEndorse AI Agent. The agent can review documents, identify editable fields and signatory roles, and allow users to review and modify the proposed fields before proceeding.
This tool can work with documents already stored in DocEndorse, existing templates, or documents supplied by the user.
3.2.2 Request File Upload URL
Tool: request_upload_url
This tool supports the upload of documents that need to be used in an e-signature workflow but are not already available in DocEndorse.
It generates a temporary upload link that allows a compatible AI assistant to upload the document before passing it to the DocEndorse AI Agent.
Once the document has been uploaded, it can be used in the requested e-signature workflow.
This tool is only needed when a document must be uploaded through the MCP client. If no document needs to be uploaded, it is not required.
Note: Uploading documents through the MCP client depends on the client's capabilities and configuration. If the client cannot upload the document, you can upload it directly through the DocEndorse AI Agent's composer after the workflow has been handed off.
3.3 Document and Template Search
3.3.1 Search Documents
Tool: search_documents
This tool searches for documents stored in DocEndorse.
It helps users locate existing documents that they want to retrieve, identify, or use in an e-signature workflow.
For example, you can ask your AI assistant to find a particular agreement or locate a document by its name or other relevant search terms.
Once the correct document has been identified, it can be used in a supported e-signature workflow.
3.3.2 Search Templates
Tool: search_templates
This tool searches for existing e-signature templates in DocEndorse.
It helps users find reusable templates that can be used to initiate new document workflows without starting from scratch.
For example, you can ask your AI assistant to find a particular contract template or locate a template for a recurring business process.
If you want to create a new template rather than use an existing one, the DocEndorse AI Agent handles the template creation process.
3.4 E-Signature Request Search
3.4.1 View Sent E-Signature Requests
Tool: view_sent_esign_requests
This tool displays a list of e-signature requests you have previously sent.
It is useful when you want to review your sent requests, identify a particular request, or see which signature workflows you have initiated.
You can also limit the number of requests displayed to make the list easier to review.
3.4.2 Search E-Signature Requests
Tool: search_esign_requests
This tool helps you find specific e-signature requests that have already been sent.
You can search using information such as:
- The request title or document name.
- A recipient's name.
- A recipient's email address.
- The most recently sent requests.
- The status of a request.
Available status filters include completed, waiting, canceled, and expired requests.
This tool is particularly useful when you need to locate a specific signature request or identify requests that may require further attention.
3.5 Signature Status and Recipient Information
3.5.1 Get E-Signature Status Summary
Tool: get_esign_status_summary
This tool retrieves status information for sent e-signature requests.
It allows users to obtain an overview of their signature requests or check the status of selected requests.
This can help users understand which requests have been completed and which may still require action.
The status information provides visibility into the progress of document execution without requiring users to locate and review every request individually.
3.5.2 Get E-Signature Request Recipients
Tool: get_esign_request_recipients
This tool retrieves the recipients associated with one or more e-signature requests.
It helps users identify who is involved in a particular signing workflow and determine which recipients are associated with a request.
This information can be useful when reviewing a signature request, checking recipient details, or deciding who should receive a reminder or a resent request.
3.6 Reminders and Follow-Ups
3.6.1 Send E-Signature Reminder
Tool: send_esign_reminder
This tool sends a reminder to a specific recipient for an existing e-signature request.
It is useful when a recipient has not yet completed the required signing action and needs a follow-up.
By sending a reminder, users can prompt recipients to return to their outstanding signature requests without having to initiate a new request.
3.6.2 Resend E-Signature Request
Tool: resend_esign_request
This tool resends an existing e-signature request to a specified recipient.
It supports the following delivery methods:
- SMS
This can be useful when a recipient has misplaced the original request or needs it to be sent again through an alternative supported channel.
The recipient's details must correspond to the intended recipient of the request. A phone number is required when resending through SMS or WhatsApp.
